Oddný Eir: Autofiction

Born 1972, writer, environmental activist. She studied political philosophy at the University of Iceland in Reykjavík, and has a doctorate from the Sorbonne in Paris. She writes poems, essays, prose, she is the author of four novels, the most famous of which, Love in the Ruins (2021), was nominated for the Icelandic Literary Prize in 2011 and won the European Union Prize for Literature. In this self-fictional diary collage, the author tells the poetic story of a writer who returns to her family's roots and ponders the connection between man, landscape and the past. "Every life is extraordinary, just like the great deeds of old men, an autobiography can tell about the anxieties and gender uncertainty of a young woman." Oddný Eir explains why she is not afraid to take inspiration from her own life.
