Kristín Svava Tómasdóttir: Porn and Midwives

Born in 1985. Poet and historian. She studied history at the University of Iceland in Reykjavík and published an award-winning monograph on the history of pornography in Iceland. She is an editor of the important historical magazine Saga. She debuted in 2007 with her poetry collection Blótgælur [Tender Insults], followed by three more: Skrælingjasýningin [2011, Exhibition of Savages], Stormviðvörun [2015, Storm Warning] and Hetjusögur [2020, Tales of Heroines]. The last book of poems deals with real stories of midwives living in Iceland in the second half of the 19th century. Kristín's poetry oscillates between the past and the present, it can be warm, smart, witty, but also scathing and critical.
