Eliza Reid: Secrets of the Spakkar

Born 1976 in Ottawa. Canadian-Icelandic writer, columnist and after the election of her husband to the post of the President in 2016, also the first lady of Iceland. She studied international relations at the University of Toronto and history at Oxford. After moving to Iceland in 2003, she devoted herself to journalism, writing for the English-language Icelandic magazines Iceland Review and The Reykjavík Grapevine. As the first lady, she is involved in issues related to sustainable tourism and equality of human rights. She entered literature with the English-language book Secrets of the Sprakkar: Iceland's Extraordinary Women and How They Are Changing the World (2022), in which the stories of specific women explore why Iceland regularly ranks at the top of the rankings assessing the equality of men and women.
